Thank you for stopping by! I believe that therapeutic massage is a necessity to self-care and living a healthy lifestyle. In a world that is becoming more and more socially distant, it is more important than ever to pay attention to our need for touch. Research has shown that physical touch releases oxytocin (the feel good hormone) and increases dopamine and serotonin in the body. These hormones and neurotransmitters help regulate our mood, and reduce stress and anxiety levels.
I decided to go into massage therapy because of it's powerful therapeutic results. After suffering for years with debilitating low back pain and sciatica, I was struggling to find relief. My back went out on me twice which left me laid in bed for a week or more to heal. I couldn't identify the cause. However, the solution came once I began massage therapy school. We found the culprit of my pain tied up in my tight muscles and ligaments, and ever since then I have been pain-free. Massage therapy was a blessing to me, and I intend to continue doing it to be a blessing to others and help them find pain relief as well.
I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since graduating Mt. Nittany Institute in 2007. I am also a Holistic Wellness Coach to help women recover from binge-eating, and I'm an advocate for size inclusivity fitness and practice helping larger women love fitness through Personal Training.
With the current pandemic, the rules are continually changing. I do take a proactive approach to protecting my clients health through proper hygiene and sanitizing; as well as, wearing masks to my appointments. At this time, I am opening a new location at 221 W High St. Loft 650 in Bellefonte, PA! I look forward to seeing you on my calendar!
Stay Happy & Healthy,
Tara Mathews
